Flemming’s experience in this emerging hybrid territory will be brought into play through Spatial Ecologies, the Royal Danish Academy’s new master’s programme in Kalundborg, where he will contribute design expertise and practice-based knowledge from working across conventional disciplinary boundaries. The programme is established under the leadership of newly appointed Professor Taneha Kuzniecow Bacchin and explores architecture through the material, ecological and cultural systems that shape places over time.

For Rafn Studio, which remains Flemming’s primary focus, this is an extension of practice: an opportunity to bring experience into education while allowing new research, questions and emerging perspectives to feed back into the studio. Strengthening the exchange between practice, research and education is increasingly important in a climate crisis that challenges established ways of thinking and working. The transition ahead requires not only new knowledge, but a faster exchange between those who develop it and those who put it into practice.
