The conversation took its starting point in Habitat 25, the mushroom-growing tower co-created by Flemming Rafn and exhibited at DAC as part of Age of Nature. On just 30 m², the installation demonstrates how food production can become spatial, visible and integrated into the city, while working with circular flows of organic residual materials, nutrients and soil.
Together with mushroom grower Lasse Antoni Carlsen and chef Christian Puglisi, Rafn discussed the wider potential of mushrooms as food, resource and regenerative cycle. Habitat 25 points to a broader architectural question: how can we design with whole systems in mind, and make the hidden connections between land, production, consumption and ecology visible?

The project represents an approach that continues into Rafn Studio: using architecture to reveal alternative ways of organising the systems we depend on and giving physical form to regenerative possibilities.
